REMCON Constructions were awarded the design and construct contract for the carbon fibre strengthening works at the Point Cook Town Centre in December 2014 by Maben Group. The strengthening works were required due to a reconfigeration of the existing store layout within the shopping centre.
The shopping centre continued to operate during the installtion period and as such works were required to be completed while the centre was open as well as after hours.
The works involved the supply and epoxy fixing of 670 metres of Sika Carbour S1212 carbon fibre in 18 locations on the top and bottom of the concrete slab. The under slab works were required to be completed around existing services and cable trays. The strips were fixed using approved Sikadur adhesive with a saw cut and flush finish required for the top of slab strips to suit the floor finishes. Remcon undertook the setout survey and provided the grinding equipment and scaffold required to complete the works.
The below picture shows Carbon Fibre recessed into the concrete structure, this rebate was then backfilled to a fine flush finish using epoxy mortars and fine crushed sands, this provides prtection to the fibre and a neat finish overll.
