Scanning, Truncating, Design, Supply & Install of Carbon Fibre
REMCON Constructions were awarded the design and construct contract for the carbon fibre strengthening works at Camberwell Central by Maben Group. It is great to be working with MABEN once again after sucessfulyy completing the carbon fibre strengthening works at Point Cook Shopping Centre.
Due to a reconfigeration of the existing carpark slab and column strengthening works were required to meet the revised loads.
The works were completed in and out of hours with the shopping centre continuing to trade during the installation.
3D slab scanning was undertaken during the investigation process to locate the existing reinforcment and post-tensioning tendons. Once located the tendons were then exposed and the strands truncated to enable the PT cable to be demolished safely.
The photo on the top right shows the post-tensioning after scanning and careful removal of the ducting exposing the bare strands.
The strengthening part of the works involved the supply and installation of 500 metres of Sika Carbour S1214 carbon fibre in various locations on the soffit of the concrete slab. The under slab works were required to be completed around existing services and cable trays.
This photo is showing the final strips being adhered after sand blasting has been undertaken.
The strips were fixed using approved Sikadur adhesive. Remcon undertook the setout survey and provided the blasting equipment and scaffold required to complete the works. ITP’s were completed and all strips cleaned and prepared for handover. All engineering certification and 1507 forms were submitted to the client.
