POLYFUSION AM (ANTIMICROBIAL)

Polyfusion AM. The Surface That Fights Back.

Standard coatings protect surfaces from corrosion and wear. Polyfusion AM does that — and kills bacteria, mould, fungus and viruses at the same time. By embedding silver ion technology directly into the thermoplastic coating, IBIX Industrial has created the world’s only surface protection system that is simultaneously a high-performance industrial coating and a permanent antimicrobial barrier.

Available exclusively in Australia through Remcon Group.

What Makes Polyfusion AM Different

Every other antimicrobial treatment is a surface application — a spray, a wipe, a topcoat that wears off with time and cleaning. Polyfusion AM is different at a fundamental level: the silver ions are fused into the thermoplastic coating itself. They cannot be washed out, cleaned off or worn away.

The result:

  • 99.9999% reduction in bacteria — compared to 20–38% with polyethylene film
  • Active against MRSA, E. coli, Salmonella, Bacillus Subtilis and more
  • Active against mould, fungus and viruses
  • Resistant to high-pressure cleaning and industrial wash-down
  • Unaffected by quaternary salt sanitisers, ethyl acid and standard cleaning agents
  • Permanent protection — does not require reapplication
  • All the performance properties of standard Polyfusion plus antimicrobial action

Where Polyfusion AM is Specified

Hospitals & Healthcare Facilities Floors, walls, corridors, wet areas and any surface subject to direct human contact. MRSA and hospital-acquired infection are persistent challenges — Polyfusion AM provides continuous background antimicrobial protection between cleaning cycles.

Aged Care Facilities Aged care residents are among the most vulnerable to infection. Polyfusion AM on floors, wet rooms, handrails and communal surfaces reduces bacterial load continuously.

Commercial Kitchens & Food Processing Surfaces in food preparation environments must be hygienic, chemical resistant and easy to clean. Polyfusion AM delivers all three — plus active antimicrobial protection between wash-down cycles.

Wineries & Breweries Polyfusion AM is approved for contact with alcohol and wine, providing hygienic, chemical-resistant floor and wall surfaces in production environments.

Schools & Childcare Centres High-contact surfaces in educational environments — floors, wet areas, handrails and entries — where reducing bacterial transmission matters.

Public Transport & Infrastructure Handrails, platforms, station floors and public touch surfaces where microbial contamination is constant. Polyfusion AM is suitable for metal, concrete and GRP surfaces.

Pharmaceutical & Laboratory Clean room adjacent areas, laboratory floors and surfaces where contamination control is critical.

Bacteria & Pathogens Polyfusion AM Targets

  • MRSA (Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus)
  • E. coli
  • Salmonella
  • Bacillus Subtilis
  • General mould and fungus
  • Viral contamination on surfaces

Compatible Substrates for Polyfusion AM

Polyfusion AM can be applied to virtually any surface:

  • Concrete (floors, walls, wet areas)
  • Mild steel, galvanised steel, structural steel
  • Aluminium
  • Stainless steel
  • Fibreglass / GRP
  • Fabricated metalwork (handrails, handles, frames)

Application Process

Step 01 — Surface Assessment The substrate is assessed for condition, contamination and suitability. Any defects are repaired before coating.

Step 02 — Surface Preparation Concrete is sanded/ground. Steel is blast-cleaned. GRP surfaces are sanded. All surfaces are cleaned of contamination and dried before proceeding.

Step 03 — Primer Application Appropriate primer is applied and allowed to reach the correct tacky state.

Step 04 — Polyfusion AM Application The IBIX flame spray system applies Polyfusion AM to the prepared surface. Silver ions are fused into the coating on application — the antimicrobial protection is active immediately.

Step 05 — Inspection & Handover Coating continuity and thickness are verified. The surface is ready for service and cleaning immediately.

Common Questions — Polyfusion AM

Q: Does the antimicrobial protection wear off with cleaning? No. The silver ions are fused into the thermoplastic coating itself — they are not a surface treatment. High-pressure cleaning, quaternary salt sanitisers, ethyl acid and intensive cleaning cycles do not diminish the antimicrobial protection.

Q: How does 99.9999% bacterial reduction compare to standard cleaning? Standard cleaning with disinfectants typically achieves a temporary reduction. As soon as a surface is touched or exposed to air, bacterial re-colonisation begins. Polyfusion AM provides continuous baseline protection between cleaning cycles — significantly reducing the bacterial load at all times.

Q: Is Polyfusion AM safe in food preparation environments? Yes. Polyfusion AM is approved for contact with alcohol and wine, and resists the cleaning agents and sanitisers used in food production environments.

Q: Can Polyfusion AM be applied to handrails and vertical surfaces? Yes. The IBIX flame spray system can coat handrails, handles, vertical walls, frames and any surface subject to direct human contact — making it ideal for healthcare and public environments.

Q: Is there a colour difference between Polyfusion and Polyfusion AM? Both are available in standard colour ranges. Contact Remcon Group for the current options.
