Dimboola Weir

Concrete repairs and Specialist Coatings

REMCON Constructions were awarded this project based on its experience with the use of Xypex Products. Maxstra Construction engaged REMCON in early Feb 2014 to undertake these works.

The Original Weir was severely damaged by the impact of the 2011 floods which ripped through the Wimmera shire. The weir was showing signs of water ingress through structural cracks within the blade walls, the condition report from GHD was very thorough a showed all defects in which required treatment.
The scope of works was to break out and repair all active cracks using approved Xypex Australia repair techniques and in addition the repair of concrete cancer using Bluey Technologies HB50 repair mortars. This was done with tremendous understanding from our site team and with 100% success in mitigating all water ingress.

Upon completion of the repairs, REMCON was awarded the coating contract to provide a full 2 coat system of Nanokote-9 Proguard series coating to increase durability and decreasing friction with water passing through the blade walls. The area was washed using 3500PSI water pressure and we then spray applied 2 coats as per the recommendation from the manufactures.

Upon completion of the main works contract, REMCON were requested by Maxstra to remain on site and increase the crew size to carry out minor formwork and concrete pours. This was a request we were happy to comply with increasing the crew size to 5 for the next 4 weeks and carrying out over 250 m2 of concrete apron slabs and many various tasks including multiple capping beams and stair cases.
